Cerclage Update

Short Version:
Everything went well.  The best part? The babies all are growing and have 3 strong heartbeats.

Long Version:
We got to the hospital at 10:30 and they started prepping me right away. Luckily I had 2 really nice nurses that made me feel comfortable and didn't give me time to dwell on things.  One thing I learned is that if you are dehydrated it's very hard to give blood and start an IV.  Ouch. They kept saying my blood was like mud and it would just slowly drip out, not even filling half a tube. Well, maybe you shouldn't tell me not to drink anything and then schedule my appointment for 12:30 in the afternoon!  I  got an ultrasound, and the doctor gave me 4 new pictures. :) That was the highlight of my morning.

Then it was time to go back.  I was really nervous about getting the epidural, but honestly, the IV hurt way more than that!  They had a problem with my blood pressure getting too low, and then my heart raced from whatever they gave me, but they quickly got vitals stabilized.  It was no bid deal and I was numb pretty quick. It's the strangest feeling to not be able to feel your legs.  They laid me back and I never opened my eyes from that point on. I told them I didn't want to know what was going on, and they were pretty quiet which was good. My anesthesiologist was great and kept talking to me about random things to keep my mind off of it. I didn't feel any pain, some slight tugging, but it didn't hurt. It's weird to feel things moving around inside of you.  It was actually over pretty quick, maybe 10 minutes tops.

Then I spent 2 hours in recovery. No matter how many warm blankets they gave me my temperature wouldn't come up. I told them it wouldn't if they were going to keep me in a room that is 58 degrees and that I was always cold, but they tried anyways.  I spent a good 1 1/2 hours of that time trying to wiggle my toes, an impossible task! Finally my right foot would move a little, but my left was a good  2 hours behind. They brought me back to my room and Michael wanted me to move my toe more than I did! I think he was afraid of being left with triplets and a handicapped wife.  I dozed while he played on his computer and they finally brought me something to eat and drink.  We ended up staying way longer than I thought we would because my blood pressure was too low and I had to be able to get up and walk to the bathroom.  I finally did and we left around 6ish after getting an ultrasound to reassure me that the babies were doing good.

I wasn't in pain per say, but I was very, very uncomfortable and sore.  I had trouble sleeping last night only because my whole body aches, and my uterus is very crampy.  But I'm doing okay, glad to be home and glad my babies are growing.  As long as I don't move I feel fine today.  But I have to get up like every hour to pee and that is not  fun!  I'm on bed rest all day today, tomorrow I'll take it really easy, and I'll go back to work on Thursday as long as I'm feeling up to it. Then Spring Break starts Friday. :)  I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor on Monday, and if everything looks good then I will feel much better and will be ready to start planning for these babies!

Thanks for the calls, texts, and prayers! :)

  3. Wow - M, super cool but scary too!! I've decided not to do it, but it hasn't even come up yet. I've been told that as I carried 2 other babies to term it really shouldn't be a problem. I had my 12 week scan today - oh so nice to see those 3 babies again!!
Thinking of you whilst you are recovering xxxx
